Glassell Park ll

An extra deep lot on the edge of Glendale with a side to side slope got a front and rear yard makeover. In the back, a series of stunning poured-in-place board-formed concrete retaining walls and steps hold the slope and provide interest. Messy trees that were planted much too close to the house and an odd stone dais were removed to make way for a custom bench, firepit, and Ipe kitchen deck. New glass doors and windows were added to create good indoor-outdoor flow. A bespoke peaked louvered pergola structure mirrors the house volume and conveniently has lighting, a fan, and outdoor heaters.

A restrained palette of Mediterranean plants were used in the sunny areas, and shade-loving Asian plants were used in the lower light areas. An elegant gravel patio with seating and new perimeter wood fencing with hedging surrounds a mature existing Citrus tree; other Citrus trees were added throughout, and a farm-inspired wood and metal mesh fence cordons off a food lab and chicken coops. A new custom work shed and in-ground trampoline sit under a mature Pecan tree.

In the front, a new sand-finished concrete driveway, steps, walkway, wood fencing, and swing area were added along with shade tolerant plants under the canopy of a truly majestic Deodar cedar tree.
