Atwater Village

A vintage Spanish house on a leafy street in Atwater Village had a dead lawn and no dedicated path to the door. Grass was removed and extra dirt was brought in to make mounds around a curvy DG path with timber steps and a Redbud tree.

A 100% native California plant palette was used, giving much seasonal variation. Two CA Cherry shrubs were added to the parkway and have been pruned up as small trees. The client can now sit on her newly screened front porch and watch the many birds come to her bird bath set among native shrubs, grasses, and boulders!

This property has been featured several times on the Theodore Payne native plant tour, and was additionally featured as the lead photo in an LA Times article on replacing tired front lawns with vibrant native plants.
