El Sereno

A young family purchased a vintage Craftsman house on a deep lot at the base of the hills in El Sereno that had a single Persimmon tree in the back and dead grass in front and back. We designed a colorful front entrance garden with a green-barked yellow-flowering Palo Verde tree and succulents, cacti, and architectural drought tolerant plants in warm yellows, oranges, blues, and greens.

In the rear, the existing wood fence was painted black to make it recede, and multiple mature Crape Myrtle trees, an Olive tree, a Citrus tree, and Pineapple Guava shrubs were brought in to soften the edges and provide structure, shade, and screening, and make a gray-green oasis where the kids and dog can safely play!
